Tim Krupp’s grandparents had a knack for picking antiques. In the early 1980s, they started an antique shop north of Wooster and saw immediate success. Tim’s grandfather started buying Amish Oak furniture and mixing it in with the antiques piece by piece. Over time, the new Amish Oak furniture was selling so well that they transitioned from an antique shop to Croskey Furniture. Tim’s grandparents made additions to the current location while his parents opened a second location in Ashland. Tim grew up working for the family, delivering furniture with his uncle and helping his grandparents wherever he could. Tim’s grandparents eventually sold the business to his parents and they ran it for 6 years before passing it on to Tim in 2005. Tim and his wife, Autumn, loved running the furniture business. All was going according to plan until the economic downturn of 2008 took its toll on the company. Tim remembers, “no one was moving, no one was redecorating their homes, and suddenly our once thriving business was no longer able to support our family.”

n 2009, Tim and Autumn made the gut-wrenching decision to close the business. Autumn remembers, “When I think about closing the store, it was one of the most humbling and difficult things, but we wouldn’t change it. We grew so much through that time.” Shortly thereafter, Tim started a moving company with the delivery guys from the store and found a temporary job. In 2015, the moving company was big enough to support the Krupp family. Autumn spent nine years as a stay at home mom and answered phones for the moving company. When the kids went to elementary school, Autumn wanted to get back to work but was unsure of what to do. She interviewed for different jobs, but was unable to find a fit.

With the economy on the upswing, Autumn knew that Wooster needed a new furniture store. She and Tim know the furniture industry inside and out. In 2018, after over a year of prayerful consideration, Tim and Autumn took a leap of faith and opened HighPoint Furniture at its current location. They couldn’t help but have doubts and fears from the store they closed nearly a decade earlier. It was a huge risk to sign the lease and purchase inventory. Autumn remembers, “Our biggest fear was that we’d open the store only to have to close again. Despite our worries, we knew this is what we were meant to do. Life knocks you down sometimes, but it’s important to get back up and keep living. God provided for us through it all.”

The new store surpassed the Krupp’s expectations and took off immediately. They paid down all of their startup debt within 9 months. To Autumn, running the store is more than just selling furniture, it’s helping families turn houses into homes. She explains, “We know furniture is an investment for your home. We don’t want to pressure people with pushy sales tactics. We’re here for the long haul to recommend options within a customer’s means. We have people come in just for a set of candlesticks, to redecorate an entire home, or anything in between. Whatever the case, we want to make their experience with us a great one.”
