Dr. Scott Drew grew up in Maryland outside of Washington DC. He spent his summers working for his father at the gas station he managed. Dr. Drew always knew he wanted to continue his education after high school, but wasn’t sure what type of career he wanted to pursue. His family doctor was a mentor to young Scott, answering questions and inspiring him to consider a career in medicine. Scott was the first member of his family to graduate from college. After completing his undergrad, he attended his mentor’s alma mater, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine.

It was during a rotation in medical school where Dr. Drew found his place in dermatology. He explains, “I had a preconceived notion of what being a dermatologist looks like, but I was wrong. The attending took me under his wing and showed me the ins and the outs of the specialty. It’s so much more than checking moles and treating acne. We see all ages, genders, and races. We diagnose and treat issues from urgent to surgical to elective and cosmetic. I get to experience every aspect of medicine under one specialty.”

Dr. Scott Drew attended medical school at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he now serves on the board.

Newly married and starting a family, Dr. Drew was in his last year of residency and considering a variety of job opportunities. When he was offered a position at the Smith Clinic in Marion, the history buff couldn’t help but leap at the opportunity to visit a town with such a rich history. On his first visit, he fell in love with the community and knew it was the perfect fit for him and his growing family. In 1992, he joined the Smith Clinic and brought local dermatology services to Marion. When Smith Clinic disbanded in 2016, he took the opportunity to open his own practice. Valuing the support he’s received from the Marion community since day one, the Drew family poured blood, sweat, and tears into the new practice. He purchased an old, outdated office building and decided to give it a complete overhaul. Luckily Dr. Drew’s wife, Pam, is an interior designer and handled the renovations to make his dream office a reality. The remodeled facility features state of the art equipment in a bright, clean, and relaxing setting.

Dr. Drew considers his work a calling and takes great pride in building relationships with his patients to achieve the results they’re looking for. Of course this includes his friends, family, and neighbors in the Marion Community, but it also has a reach around the world. Fifteen years ago, he was approached with an opportunity to go on a medical service trip to Kenya with a group of doctors. He agreed to go, but had no idea what to expect. He reflects, “I was absolutely overwhelmed by the disparity and lack of healthcare and water access. On one hand it broke my heart, but on the other it inspired me. I returned home with a new perspective, a renewed love and appreciation for my job, and a passion to continue overseas medical work. My first trip was 15 years ago, and I have been on about 30 trips since.” Dr. Drew has taken the experiences he’s had across the globe and used the tools to both better his current practice and educate others on the need and opportunities around the world.
