Hard work, dedication, and fitness are not only key aspects of CrossFit, but are also closely associated with the Lytle Family. The four siblings (Sam, Wally, JP and Janine) grew up with an active lifestyle. Whether playing organized sports or working on their farm, the Lytle kids were encouraged to be outside and be active. All four siblings played sports throughout high school and college, but when JP graduated and moved back to the area, he found himself looking for a new fitness regimen. Youngest sibling Janine started doing CrossFit workouts with deadlifts, pushups, and box jumps at the gym. She loved the challenge it brought and shared the new workouts with the rest of her family. It wasn’t long before the Lytles took on the new workouts and found the CrossFit community at a gym in Akron.

Lytles are no strangers to family run business. Lytle Construction opened in 1935 and was run by family until 2013. The siblings knew that they wanted to continue this tradition and open a fitness facility in Wooster. JP joined an internship program to become a certified coach and started looking for the right location. They found what seemed to be a perfect fit and Declaration CrossFit opened its doors in September of 2013.

The gym has always been a family space, inviting people of all ages and abilities to come and better themselves. JP explains, “Whether you are 8 or 80, we have classes and programs for you. It’s about moving and having fun doing it. It’s easy to make excuses when it comes to our wellness, but to make change happen, it takes a community. Our parents and family have always stood behind us and we want to be that family to help our members improve their health.”
Declaration has created a unique environment where their members succeed because of the team approach and community. Sam Stine explains, “One of the biggest reasons people don’t reach their goals is they try to do it by themselves. On your own, you might make it a week or a month, but one day you are going to be tired and quit. When you have coaches and are a part of a class, you get the encouragement and accountability that we all need to be successful.” Amy Ullman has experienced this first hand.

“Having someone help you when you want to quit, whether it is the last set of a workout or just not wanting to get out of bed in the morning. We motivate each other and hold each other accountable. I’ve never experienced that when I’ve tried fitness programs in the past, and it’s been the difference in keeping me on track.” When asked what she would say to someone who’s considering trying Declaration Karissa Pryor responds, “The hardest part is coming in the first day. Once you are there everyone is so welcoming. Whether you are someone who has worked out for years or has never worked out, they welcome you like a friend!”

community

As Declaration has changed and grown over the past seven years, they have found new ways to serve the community. Whether through group classes, one to one personal training, sport specific training for junior high through college athletes, nutrition and wellness training, even offering a mindset training class. Declaration has become the hub for all things fitness. They recently moved to a new, larger location at 1909 Old Mansfield Road, and with the move, changed their name to Declaration Fitness.

The Lytle Family and the team at Declaration Fitness are ready to help your New Year resolutions become reality. You now have the opportunity to take advantage of 6 weeks of classes for only $50. Stop in at 1909 Old Mansfield Road in Wooster, OH or call 330-988-0907 for more information.
